Positive Vibes

When I first heard I had cancer the world stopped moving beneath my feet and I had to take a million steps backward from where I had gotten myself to. I had lived a pretty healthy lifestyle and chose organic products when I could afford them, stayed away from chemicals in cleaning products and personal care products, and exercised as much as I could. All to reduce my risk of getting cancer. Still though I believe that by making those choices, my cancer has not made me as worse off as it possibly could have.

When I returned from being abroad I went on a trip with all my best friends from Ski and Board to Killington for a week where we skied all day and partied all night and I could not have been happier to have been with them. Then I moved into a house with five of my best friends and we had a ball every single day, trying to soak up the time we had left together before they graduated. I went skiing every weekend and I enjoyed all my classes and I was finally 21 so I could join my friends at the bars. PLUS, I had an internship coming up in Greenfield, MA which would allow me to live in my new house all the way through graduation, a refreshing change after traveling non-stop for four months. The whole time I was abroad I had an overwhelming feeling that something good was going to happen when I got home.

Cancer wasn’t really what I had in mind of something good happening. I had pictured maybe an amazing semester of school, landing a cool new job, traveling again soon or maybe even a boyfriend. However, the love and support I have gotten during this journey is more than I could have ever asked for. I have many good days and a few bad days but my friends and family, and you, are there to support me through all of it. I wish everyone could feel the love and support I have had from Team Janelle because you are all truly the best people in the world and every one of you deserves this type of love.

I had been hesitant to start my blog again about this very different journey, but so many people have been asking me about it so I figured that this would be the best way to share with you. I got good news today about the scan I had last Thursday, that the tumor I had on my front right rib cage is completely gone, the fluid in my lungs is gone and now they look perfect, and that ALL the lesions in my bones are responding and shrinking. I truly, 100% believe that it is not the chemo alone that made this progress, it is a positive attitude, always looking for the good, believing that I will kick this cancer’s ass so hard, and the love, support, positive vibes, and prayers from all of you that have made this possible.

  9. Janelle, your blog and news and attitude all make my day! I haven’t wanted to disturb you and your family, but you are on my mind and in my heart almost constantly. I know cancer can be cruel but also know that bodies are wonderfully complex and when mixed with spirit, love, determination, good medical care and mystery, can heal. Ralph & I are rooting for you big time!
I hope the fact that I saw this blog today means that I’ll keep seeing it whenever you are strong enough to share.
