August

I don’t really know how to begin this blog post but a lot has happened over the past month and I wanted to update everyone. My goal is to answer questions so that when I’m out and about I don’t always have to be talking about my cancer diagnosis.

The month started off pretty great and I was able to check going to a concert off my bucket list after attending Lord Huron at HoB with my friends. Later that week I was also able to go to a picnic concert and go out for a friends birthday. Unfortunately, I pushed my self too much and ended up very tired.

Following that, I had to get shots every day for five days to boost up my stem cell production so that they could be harvested for a possible later procedure that I will explain if and when the time comes. These shots caused me a lot of pain as the stem cells pushed at the limits of my bones and I was on crutches for a few days. Thankfully I was able to go up to my aunt’s beach house to relax and have a change in scenery. My stem cells were harvested on the 21st and the pain was supposed to subside but it did not. This meant I was sent in for an X-ray of my back but there were no new fractures. I get fractures easily in my bones due to the cancer invading. On Saturday morning the 25th when I woke up I could not walk. My legs were so numb I had trouble putting one foot in front of the other.

My parents and I immediately called the cancer center and they told me to go to the ER asap. While I was getting ready to head out I could tell my dog Max was very concerned. When I arrived at the hospital I went through a multitude of tests and eventually, an MRI revealed that there was a tumor growing on my spine pushing on my spinal cord giving me issues. I went in for emergency surgery that night to have the tumor removed and have been recovering in ICU since. Hopefully, I will be discharged today since the doctors are proud of how much I have improved.

I appreciate all the well wishes that have been sent to me but I am not able to reply to everyone due to my energy levels. Thank you all again for being so supportive.

  8. Janelle, it was so great to see you and your family at the family reunion the first week of August. So glad you found the strength to make the trip after a long morning of a blood transfusion. It says a lot about who you are as a person and that family is very important. We are proud of how you have stayed true to yourself as a person and your true personality shines through in this battle. You are truly an amazing Woman.
    I really enjoyed our small serendipitous conversations and I listened in on many others you had as you strolled about talking with the family. You are a great teacher in this present state of your physical trials. We all are looking to you for clues on how to handle lifes’ difficult challenges. Although I have faith that this period of your life will be changing for the better. You truly are a strong Woman.
    I loved how you treated and conversed with our grandkids and the youngest members of our attending families. You got onto their level to answer their questions and to just chat with them. You were engaged in the topics that described your interests and activities that you were part of at school, recreation and with your family. And about your plans for the future. You truly are a loving Woman.
    I am impressed with you!
    To have so many family and friends replying, rallying and supporting your ‘village’. To have remained strong and gotten stronger and embattled against this disease is impressive. Back in ‘Positive Vibes’ post you wrote in a blog of your expected future of the plans and the hopes and your forecast of how your life would be like – ‘something good’. Do not lose that plan and hope. It reminds me of a story in the Bible of a prophet whos’ people were embattled by oppressors just as the cancer is trying to oppress you. This scripture exemplifies the vision of what your life is to be as you wrote it in ‘Positive Vibes’. Habakkuk 2:2-3: ‘2 Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation (your forecast of your future)
    and make it plain on tablets
    so that a herald may run with it.
    3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
    it speaks of the end (of your physical trial)
    and will not prove false.
    Though it linger, wait for it;
    it will certainly come
    and will not delay.
    You truly are a blessed Woman.
    People such as yourself are born with this inate gift of personality and a strong will to see their futures be a success. You had a great plan for your life before this physical challenge and now you have dug deep into who Janelle is to see that that future comes to fruition. I believe in you. I believe that God will help you fight this disease to its end. You truly are a successful Woman.
